Simphiwe Ngema

Simphiwe Ngema is a South African stage and television actress best known for her role in the popular television soap opera Muvhango on SABC 2. She graduated with a Diploma in Journalism at Boston Media House. Simphiwe Ngema was born in Klipspruit Ext 2 Soweto, the south of Johannesburg in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. She grew up in a small town outside Soweto called Zuurbekom. In 2008 her career as an actress started where she was cast in a stage production called “The Game’. She played the character of ‘Pretty Khumalo’, a prostitute who is in jail for the murder of her father. She worked alongside well-known actresses such as Leleti Khumalo, Mary Twala and Sindi Dlathu .She was also featured in productions such as Sheila’s Day (stage production) and Qaphela (industrial theatre) in 2009 and a feature film called Droplets in 2015. When The Game concluded Simphiwe went on to finish her journalism studies and graduated in 2010. In 2011 she began portraying the character of Thuli Nkosi on Muvhango and left the show in June 2015. From November 2015 to May 2016 she was a television presenter for a cultural show called Isiko on E-tv where she travelled South Africa to meet traditional leaders and community members of the Va-Tsonga, Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele, Swati, Vha-venda, Basotho, Batswana, Bapedi, Jewish, Indians and Afrikaans groups. She then played a character by the name of Noni Ndlovu, who is a mentally ill self-proclaimed psychologist on Mzansi Magic’s Greed and Desire DSTV channel 161.
