Donovan born on April 2, 1981, in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. The second and last child of Kwena Elias Lekgothoane, an astute and well-respected businessman who also played the guitar & piano, and Moipone Lekgothoane who was a qualified schoolteacher. After losing her husband to a car accident, my mother left teaching to become a model and later well-known face on South African television, which caught my attention of her young and dramatically expressive son. A troublesome entertainer in school, Donovan was an inspired music writer/composer and a notable storyteller in English writing. Needless to say, after seeing his mother on television he was highly motivated to do the end up in the arts.
After graduating from high school, he enrolled for an I.T. Diploma when his mother denied him the opportunity to study music. His diploma led him to become an I.T. Trainer for two years before the acting bug caught up with him. Around that time, his natural talent for music started to grow shape with him arranging instrumentals for his peers in the South African Hip Hop music circles and writing his own music, though none of his productions have been officially published.
In 2006, Donovan won his first acting stint after acing his first audition for the lead role in an MTN advertisement in which the director emphasised on his natural ability to act. Donovan went on to land more lead roles in other productions, corporate videos and voice overs roles. Other notable works include a seminar speaking role for an established international company.
He now lives in Northcliff, Johannesburg.
